Chemical
The Management Associate (Chemical) Program offers work-based pathways to the fresh chemical engineering graduates to learn and develop skills required for working in complex process plant. It is a platform which helps candidate to develop as professional chemical engineer by gaining expertise in larger scale plant operation, fertilizer manufacturing processes and process plant troubleshooting. In the process, candidate will gain a thorough understanding of plant Safe Operation, Line Tracing, Safety Interlock System, DCS system, Start-up & Shutdown, Emergency Handling, problem solving, Lab Analysis, Safe execution of jobs, IMS policy & its compliance, PSM and processes related to Occupational Health & Safety. In addition to plant technical knowledge team work, people management, ability to work well under pressure, communication, adaptability & flexibility, presentation and time management are the soft skills that are focused during this program to enable candidate to work on top management positions in any industry.
Safety & HAZOP
The Management Associate Program in HSEQ department provides an excellent opportunity of learning the essential knowledge and skills of occupational Health & Safety, Process Safety Management and fire protection.
Management associate shall develop valuable skills through practical implementation of best practices of occupational health, safety & environment, process safety elements and fire protection. He will be well versed with local / International codes & standards alike Sindh OSH act, labor laws, SEPA, BCP, OSHA and NFPA.
The knowledge gained shall help to execute required tasks of hazard identification, risk assessments alike JSA, PHA & HORC, auditing functions of BBS, MSA and fire protection, incident reporting & investigations, legal requirements, safety trainings to increase awareness for safe job execution and other relevant functions of HSEQ management.
The program aims to develop and promote competent individuals to work in a challenging environment of petrochemical / fertilizer industry, grow as an expert fire and safety professional, and help organization by maintaining and further improving HSE standards.
Mechanical
Develop understanding of:
- Manuals, General courses & history of plants.
- Standard Operating Procedures & Relevant Maintenance Standards & Practices.
- Applicable Safety Standards & Work permit procedures.
- On hand practice on SAP Relevant modules.
- Routine, Preventive & Predictive Maintenance activities, resource management & job close out reports.
- Annual Turnaround Preparation & Execution.
Project Engineering
On the job training and study of codes and standards used in industries as mentioned below:
- Study of APIs manual series of Piping, Heat Exchanger, Furnace, Valves, Pumps, Compressors & Turbines. Study and use of:
- ASME Sec-VIII Div 1
- ASME PCC-2 (Repair of pressure equipment and piping)
- TEMA
- Piping Design Criteria & piping detailed specifications (Bechtel, IKDR, Snamprogetti & Stamicarbon), instrument tie-in specifications & pipe support catalogues. Introduction to AUTOPIPE / CAESAR II software for Piping Flexibility Analysis.
- Structural design basics with introduction to STAAD Pro software for structure design.
- Welding specifications (Snamprogetti), AWS Handbook & Standards.
Inspection
On the job training in different areas of Inspection as given below:
- Turnaround Inspections: Internal inspection of plant equipment during outages / turnarounds.
- On-stream Inspections: Vibration monitoring of plant machines, Corrosion monitoring and mitigation, Thermographic Inspection, Cathodic Protection (CP) system surveys.
- Technical Assessments: Fitness for Service Assessment (FFS), Remaining life assessment (RLA), Failure Analysis, Risk Based Inspections (RBI).
Chemical – Process Engineering
On the job training in different areas of Process Engineering as given below:
- Study of engineering standards, API, TEMA etc.
- Study of Basic Engineering Calculations, b) Piping, Control Valves, Flow orifices, Heat Exchangers, Pumps, Compressor sizing and development of specification sheets.
- Training of technical softwares (Aspen Hysis).
- Training on catalysts loading and unloading procedures and monitoring.
- Training on preparation of process packages for plant modifications.
- Partcipation turnaround activities like catalyst change out, chemical cleaning / pickling, unloading / loading of towers packing and equipment inspection.
Electrical
Under the Management Associate Program, individuals will have valuable opportunities to grow as a professional in the field of Electrical Power and Control System.
This program provides opportunity to gain hand-on experience of working on Power Generation, Distribution, Protection and Control systems, Motors, Transformers, PLCs, Communication system etc.

Instrument

Laboratory
Management associate is responsible to complete his training as per training plan provided upon joining Lab Unit. Salient points of training include:
- Orientation of Laboratory including handling of Chemicals and Glassware used in Lab.
- Study of manuals including Safety at Laboratory, Instrumental handling, handling of Lab Chemicals and Glassware and handling of Gases and cylinders in Lab.
- Training on samples collection and analysis of gases from Ammonia & Urea plants.
- Training on collection and analysis of Gaseous Environmental Samples like Boiler’s and Furnaces Stacks, DAP & Urea Plant Stacks.
- Training on operation of Instruments like Gas Chromatograph, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, AA Spectrometer, pH & Conductivity Meter, Ion Chromatograph, ICP-OES, XRF, CHNS Analyzer for Coal, TGA Analyzer for Coal and KF Moisture Analyzer.
- Training on Analysis of P2O5 and metallic impurities in Phosphoric Acid Samples.
- Training on Analysis of water samples from Ammonia, Utilities and Urea plants.
- Sample collection and Carbamate intermediate products of Urea plant.
- Analysis of DAP & UREA products.
- Training on Coal testing in Coal Lab.
- Any Special task assigned by UM-LAB.
Internal Audit
Management associate is responsible to complete his training as per training plan provided upon joining the Internal Audit Department.
